WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUND? WHAT IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO WEALTH?: Upper middle class. Hap made a doctor's salary while employed at the hospital. When he stopped practicing in order to pursue his research full time, he continued to fund it through his engineering work. He can comfortably afford a large mid-century on a sizeable property, a small plane, travel expenses, and to house and feed up to five captives. He doesn't indulge in luxury for its own sake.
WHAT WOULD/DID YOUR CHARACTER MAJOR IN?: Medicine with a specialization in anesthesiology. He would have also taken several engineering courses.
WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR CHARACTER?: The turning point in Hap's life was hearing the "whoosh" from a patient who died on the table and was then resuscitated. The implications sparked a lifelong obsession.

He drinks a lot of coffee too late into the day and can't sleep without medication. His research dominates his every thought, a pursuit that becomes embodied in Prairie/the OA, with whom he entertains a domestic fantasy.
WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S LIQUOR OF CHOICE?: Scotch. He exchanges a bottle every year with his mentor, another doctor who performs similar experiments AKA crimes.

IF YOUR CHARACTER HAD TO DRINK SOMEONE'S DIRTY BATHWATER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?: Prairie's. His captives bathe in a natural stream that runs through all of their cells. Homer, Hap's romantic rival, is situated upstream from Prairie. It would be one thing Hap can have that Homer can't. It would also be a small act of penance. As the one holding her captive, the grime on her is his doing. Drinking the bathwater would be admitting to it and an attempt to show her that he doesn't see her as any more soiled than he is for what he's forced to put her through.
